I would say not too bad on a 4.3 single cab. I own a 2000 ext cab 4x4 with the 5.3 and I get around 15 in the city and somewhere around 18 to 19 on the highway so you should see a little better than that I would think!

Get a truck with a 4.8 as the 4.3 won't get enough mpgs over the 4.8 to make it more affordable. You will lay into the pedal more so there will be time where your mpg gain over a V8 will be 0.

Few questions tx_cowboy:

Why only 15-19 on your truck? You think its bewcause of the dumped exhaust? You try programming it out? Removing TQM?

How did the conversion go with the Electric Fans? Was it worth it? Can you tell the difference?

I had an s-10 with the 4.3 it is a great little motor, I got about 18 city and highway. The silverado is a little heavier so I would expect 15-17 mpgs.

I wouldn't do that either. Just build the 4.3 up a little and you'll be fine. Throwing 2-3K at a basically new 4.3 is better than swapping it for 4.8 and spending more for the same output.

If the 4.3 is that new (45K) just keep it and build it up.
