Default Glass Packs On My '96 Z71

I have decided that it's time for an exhaust upgrade, and I don't want something quiet like flowmasters. I want to stand out in the crowd so I was thinking about glass packs with 2.5 or 3" pipe straight out the back with chrome tips. Is that a good setup for my truck or do you guys have any suggestions?

Does it have the 350 or 305? If it is the 350 it already has duals all the way back to the muffler, where it then goes 2 in, 1 out. Putting a set of glasspacks will be cheaper than if you had the 305. With the 305, it goes from the manifold to a y-pipe, so they would have to redo the whole piping. Glasspacks are pretty much the cheapest mufflers, but they do sound good. I have them on a 1991 with a 454 and they sound awesome. I'd say go for it. My 305 has 3" pipe. A 350 should have 2.5" so I would stick with that size.

It's the 5.7L 350 and it has 2.5" pipe up to the muffler. And I can get a local muffler shop to install two glass packs on 2.5" pipe and come straight out the back of the truck with 3" tips for $140.

That sounds like a fair price. It cost me 175 to get it done on my dually. That was for duals from the header to the back with tips, and that was at least 4 years ago. I would do it. People say the glasspacks blow out after a short time but mine still haven't, so I say go for it. It will certainly sound different than flowmasters.

never did get around to my post on this thread of how it did after i got them haha been well over a year since i got the glass packs installed.... had the stock muffler cut off but left the cats, 2.5" inlet and outlet Thrush glass packs installed on it and ran 2.5" pipe out the back to 3" slant cut tips one on each side of the reciever hitch. I must say it was pretty loud when i first got it done but now its soundin' right! got a nice deep throaty roar to it and has a little pop to it when you take off on the highway from a cold start. overall im extremely satisfied with the results and for 150 bucks ya cant really beat it.
