good deal?
traded my 97 dodge ram, reg cab, v8 360, automatic, black with 105,000 miles on it.
for
91 chevy silverado ext cab, 4 x 4, v8 5.7 v8 manual, turqoise with 133,000 miles on it.
good deal? i traded because I LOVE MANUAL, needed a 4x4 for the farm/winter. I love an ext cab for looks and because i have a big family. I like mudding and will be getting a fourwheeler not before long. I love that body style and love the older style trucks and plan to keep this forever. will eventually just be my backup/**** around truck.
I don't know a whole lot about the trucks, but i have multiple friends and family who are truck nerds and know everything about everything. So i should be alright in that aspect.
so do you guys think it was a good deal?
thanks,
Roth

I have to agree. My opinion - Dodge makes a fantastic diesel motor and the 318 and 360 are decent although gas HOGS - but their transmissions SUCK and their interiors fall apart, especially the dashes. I worked in an upholstery shop for a few years and we had the account with the local Dodge dealer to replace all their dashes that seemed to just crumble away. Good Swap!

Trading a Dodge for an oxcart would have been a good deal. As shamrock says, they simply aren't put together as well as the other two of the Big Three auto makers. If you'll look around at all trucks, you'll notice that the paint on the older Dodges won't hold up for 10 years either. They claim to have their tranny problems fixed, but they sure took a long time t do it. I even recall CarCraft doing an article on what was the problem with those trannys & how to fix it so yours wouldn't grenade. But Dodge just kept on making & replacing them, refusing to admit a problem. I personally now three people who had to replace trannys in the first 10K miles. Two vans & one truck. When they took them in, the trannys were on backorder & they had to wait weeks.

I had a late '80s Dakota, bought new, that crapped its tranny at around 45,000 miles. Took the dealer 3 weeks to fix it (under warranty, thankfully). That was the last Dodge or Chrysler product I ever owned. To this day the wife calls any Chrysler "a piece of sh#!"... she doesn't like Mercedes either because of their association.
