Default Got my 2500 Silverado

Just drove my 2007 Silverado 2500 Diesel/Allison transhome from the dealer. The truck has 8500 miles and is just like brand new. I got it for 23,989 because it is a work truck with no bells or whistles( no power windows, locks or cruise). But boy is it nice to drive. The truck is so nice a 65 mph and just purrs down the road. This is my first truck and will be taking me to Alaska in about 16 months with my 5th wheeler.

without towing anything and staying at 65 it should get 17 to 19 mpg, some do get better. Towing something around 7 to 8000 hopefully 12 to 13. I looked at a small mazda truck today with a 6 cylinder and the stickers said 15 city and 19 hwy and thats isn't very good when a big siverdado can almost get that.

ONce the engine gets somewhat broken in, around 50 or 60,000 miles, you will see a gas mileage jump. We used to get mileage stated above, but now when on the interstate going 80 we get 21.5 and pulling our 10,000lb horse trailer we get 15-16mpg.

It should be even better than that but "the boss" drives like a maniac[:@]

That does not suprise me about the Mazda. I looked at Tacomas, Tundras, Frontiers, Colorados, Canyons and Dakotas. The only truck that had significantly better MPGs over my Silverado was a 4 banger Tacoma 4x4 with a standard cab. All the others were close to what my truck gets but they were smaller (except the Tundra, but even the ones without the 5.7 were thirsty).

my uncles 2003 6.6 crew cab got about 20mpg city/highway mix. thats stock no mods. i heard that the new body style trucks had more emission stuff on them that got them worse mileage. my frineds 2007 crewcab 6.6 NBS gets 19 mixed driving. thats stock as well.

i agree with the above mentioned small trucks. i had a 2005 nissan frontier 6spd 6cyl and it got 16-17mpg city, my Z71 gets about 14mpg city. i can take a 3mpg loss for more comfort (the nissan sucked). plus my uncle got rid of his 03 duramax and got a 96 nissan pickup and its only getting like 24mpg highway.

congrats on the purchase and good luck
