Default Help with 4x4 light

I have been having problems with my autotrac. Sometimes its fine, then the "service 4x4" light comes on and the 4x4 won't engage. Speaking with the local service dep't they suggested the front actuator. I bought one ($160) and put it in today. Worked fine, then same thing happened again. Any suggestions??

Try going to an autozone and get it scanned.

Double check your install. You might have to clear the error code off the computer in order to get it to go away. There has to be somekind of reset for the computer to get it to work again. Usually errors will disable the actuator to prevent driveline damage, so the truck needs to know that it is fixed again.

We have had a few problems with the encoder motors and the main module. On the full size trucks the ones with autotrac are the only ones i have seen with problems. If you continue having the problem take it to someone who knows that system to break it down and figure out which part is acting up.
