how to get more power out of chevy's v6

I have a 2002 chevy 1500 with a v6 2wd how do i get more power out of the motor without damging it i was thinking about putting the vortec v8 in or the LS1

If you can get a LS1 motor and harness for a good price with low miles then that will be a great option. It will bolt up to the tranny.
