It seems there is a rash of punks stealing spare tires lately around here. Anybody know a good way to lock the spare tire on a 07 silverado??

Don't the "07's have the key slot on the rear bumper that you have to remove before lowering the tire with the tire iron?

 

Yes, the hole is there, but the no key slot, I guess it was a 15.00 option.

My 03 Silverado came without a lock in the slot. I bought the lock from a Chevy dealer for about $85 and then took it to a locksmith to have the lock keyed to my ignition key for another $35. Too bad I didn't get to opt for the $15 add-on. But now it works like it should. I haven't experimented to see if I could steal the wheel if I wanted to.
