I run Castrol HM 10-30 and my oil still drains fairly clean after 3,000 miles. I mean its not like clean like putting it in but it is not too bad considering there is 160,000 miles on it. I have never had aproblem with the oil. (good stuff)

Has synthetic been used on your truck since new? If not its a waste of money. The oil that came out of my truck when I bought it looked pretty clean when the "Change Oil" light came on, and it smelled and had the same texture as the Mobil 1 I used on my 91, so I kept using it. Yeah it gets darker brown by the time it hits 3,000, but not that bad.

Nah, which is what I figured eventually but was too naive plus my pops did mention "I told you so" a couple of times.

Not to mention your gaskets will shrink over time if you go from conventional to sythetic since conventional makes them swell in the first place.

Heh I was running 2 quarts of 75w-90 synthetic (trying to get between 15-40mm below fill line) and I noticed there was a small LSD engagement clunk when the truck would shift from 1st-2nd at low speeds or going up a decent grade of hill (plus had a 4" rear drop). Now with at least 3 quarts the clunk is more like a mere tap as if your only feeling the clutch engage from the tranny, not a fully audible thud. Ive recently restored the stock height in the rear to reduce the bouncy feeling on bumps and still the rear hasnt "clunked" even with stock drive shaft angle.
Figure I'd let you know... I just added a little under a quart and now my clunk is gone.

Thanks for the help man [sm=smiley20.gif]
