Well i finally got the time to install my 160 thermostat, and trans-dapt tbs. Now the only easy thing to install was the thermostat. Draining the fluids was the only halfway bad part about it. The throttlebody spacer was a pain in the *** due to my volant cai. I had to cut out part of my fan shroud so that it would fit. Once i did that, my fan hit the tubing from the cai, so i had to cut the tubing down so that fan wouldnt hit it. And i had to move my throttle cables out a bit because of the inch the tbs added. So much for a simple bolt on. Did notice little throttle/acceleration increase...and my engine runs cooler.

 

Hey Legacy, I just installed a K&N FIPK CAI system this past weekend and i too had to cut away a little bit of the fan shroud, so the tube would fit better. It fit w/o cutting it but was rubbing on the tube, so i cut the shroud. But the fan blade is not hitting the tube. I wonder why yours did? Maybe Volant is a whole different CAI set-up than K&N's. I love the looks of the Volant but opted for the K&N as they were more readily available. Good luck, Jim

 

One word, electric fans. You have a ton of room then.

 

Think electric fans is two words. But ya i wish i had the money for them, maybe sometime later.

They are expensive.... Do you really see the horsepower gains that you hear about? I heard 10-15 because you dont rely on the engine to turn the fan, therefore taking some load off of it.... Is that true?

 

My truck came stock with electric fans, but from everyone I have talked to, there is a noticeable differnce in power and milage.

 

Yes, electric fans is an upgrade that will give you noticable gains period. Reducing the stress off the engine to turn the clutch fan is what aids in the ability to increase horsepower. In addition, it will free up tons of room like smoke said, which will make CAI's with TBS's a breeze to install.
