Default Leveling kit

I am looking at leveling my 2003 GM 1500 4x4 to put some 285/75/r16 on, and would like some opinions on what to do. I was just going to turn up my tortion bars to lift it, but when I talked to a tire shop they said I would have to put a kit in my front end that would run me around $1000 installed, or else it would ride really rough and put too much tension on my front end. What should I do??
