RE: The most BAD-*** mod ever!!!
Yes. I think it is around 2-3 mpg if you are running stock tires and have the 3.42, and by 1-2 if you have the 3.73. However, if you go to a larger tire it will even out. For example if you have the 3.42 and 31" tires and change to 4.10 with 33" tires, then the milage is almost a wash. You are really just getting the truck back in the stock power band. Now if you go with bigger tires then it will go down again.

Okay not sure what gear i have. more then likely its what ever you have Smoke20 i think are trucks are close to the same. So you are saying if i read that right that if i have say the 3.42 or 3.73 with the 265 tires then if i put 285 which would be 33 inch tall that i would lose 1-2 mpg. But if i went with 4.10 and 285 i would be back to stock mpg. So what would be the use of spending $2000 on new gears? Thanks

I do have the 3.42 gears.
The advantage of lowering to 4.10 gears is accelleration and towing power, with the possible loss of top end as you run out of RPM if you have enough power to redline in overdrive. But if you increase to 285/70/17 tires you level back out. Another way to look at it is the lower gears give you more leverage on the tires. Does this make since? Also when you talk about tires you need to ensure you you give the complete size as just putting 285 only tells the with of the tires in mm. So you theoretically could have 285/20/17 which is only 22.6 inches tall. Does this help?

I hate the 20 inch rim look as well. It seems the new thing around here is big rims with low profile tires and jacked up cars. really looks dumb. There is one truck around here that has the back lowered so the bumper is almost dragging, and the front appears raised. The guy can barely see over the hood.
