Cool Steve! Hey I don't mean to sound stupid but what is a shift solenoid? How do you change it?

Also, you used seafoam in the engine or tranny?

I ran the seafoam in the gas tank. I put a bottle in with a half tank. It ran a little rough at first but now its running awesome. The shift solenoid is a little thing that helps it. You know what I dont know what it is. But I do know there is 2. 1 is to shift from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th thats the one that went out in mine. Oh and it wouldnt down shift into first or even start in first. You couldnt tell by looking at it if it was bad or not. But it thew a code. Thats why I couldnt brake torque. I havent done much with any auto trans. I did put a shift kit in like 12 years ago. Ive put them in and took them out but thats about it.

When you take off the pan and filter they are in the front. There is 2 of them and they both have 2 wires going to them. They are black and square. Just big enough for the the 2 wire's to plug in. I changed the one closest to the driver side. I got them from the dealer that was the cheapest place and I new I would get the right part and any tips I would need. both of them are the the same part. Ill try to get a picture but this is about how big it is. Its held in by a clip and it plugs in.

Interesting. So now I'll know what's wrong if I ever have the same problem. I've heard of other guys on here having the same problem with their tranny and most of them seem to end up having the whole thing rebuilt. Good thing you knew how to fix it.

I really didnt know how when I started but I did find out witch one was witch. But it was easy after I bought it and seen what it looked like.

The hole thing cost my about 80 bucks. The cheapest trans shop that I would let touch my truck wanted about $280.00.

The shift solenoid on my 700R4 was this big nipple looking thing on the side of the transmission. Its like a circle sticking out the side near the front that has a bolt in the middle of it. It mechanically controls the shift pressure I believe. Not sure exactyl how it works but I know that replacing it with one fron a Vette will increase the 1st to 2nd shift firmness. It supposedly will help the tranmission but not allowing it to slip when shifting from 1st to 2nd. On our trucks I am not sure how this works or what it looks like.

...in other words, serious money. (****, 12-15 bucks might feed me for an entire lunch time)

There are millions in Africa who could make 12 bucks last a month. It somehow doesn't last me past a trip to 7-11 for cigarettes and diet coke. If there is a hell, I am quite sure there's a spot waiting for me.
