Default Need exhaust suggestions

I want to do something with the exhaust on my work truck 1996 k1500 5.7. But I don't want dual exhaust it is a work truck and I don't want it to look flashy. I would like to leave the stock single exhaust and just change the muffler. I want a louder deeper tone, not as loud as a glasspack and not really loud and annoying at interstate speeds. I am thinking about a flowmast single in single out maybe the 40 series? Or what other muffler could I look at? Also is this something I can weld on myself or is it better to just take to a shop and pay them to do it right?

The FlowMaster 40 series is going to be a little on the loud side. If you don't want loud go 50 series. Your best bet is to go with full cat-back system though. Personally, I really like MagnaFlow. They are all stainless steel, and the install is super easy, especially if you don't want duals. It just bolts to the flange behind the y-pipe, uses all the factory hanger locations, and connects with exhaust clamps and exits in the factory location.

I believe the install for a FlowMaster system is just as easy, but they aren't 100% stainless. Either way, I'm sure you will be happy with MagnaFlow or FlowMaster.

I would adviseagainst having a shop just cut out the factory muffler and replace it. It won't be long before the welds rust out. Been there done that.

As DamnYankee stated in another post, go with anything single outlet, and I'd say nothing bigger than 3" after the cat.

Yes Borla is expensive. So is Corsa (sp?), but I am sorry I like Corsa better.

Borla itself is expensive. But the Borla ProXS line is very reasonable. Stainless steel and basically the exact same thing as their higher end stuff but with different label. They ship these to their distributors as their stock lines, so the prices are a lot less.
