Hello everyone, I got referred to this site by a friend who says there are some good techs on here. I got a 99 5.3 silverado that is coming apart on the bottom end.. I'm tring to find out if I should rebuild or replace.. The first question I have is it possible to drop a newer year like a 2001- 2004 motor in my 1999 silverado? Will it fit and hook up to existing equip.? It is possible to convert to a 6.0 setup? What all needs to be swapped? Thanks alot for the help..

You can swap it as long as you have the ecu and harness.
Check out http://www.ls1truck.com/ they do allot of swaps on that forum.

i would say get rid of the truck. its more work than most people want to do. i had to take it out to replace the block and it was a pain getting it back in and hooked up correctly. if your looking for a winter project that would be a good one but if you need it done in less than a few weeks i would say sell it and get a newer one.

It is only hard if you do not know what you are doing. Depending on how quick you need your truck back on the road. If it was me I would rebuild it the way I would want it built. If you just need it quickly then get it rebuilt back to stock or purchase a long block. And if you are not mechanically inclined do not attempt it....
