Thanks in advance for this Chevy forumand all the good info that is in here! I searched around for info..but I guess I'll just come on out.

My brakes suck! '98 C1500 w/ 350ci. I have BFG 31x10.5 tires andI think this hurts things a bit. A few years back I got the Powerslots and theywere pretty good, but now are worn & either need replaced or machined. Can they be re-surfaced? This is not really the problem...the rear brakes do NOTHING! I keep getting them checked and different Mx's all say they are fine. Are they just adjusted correctly?Is there a brakeupgrade that I can use with my 15"ARE wheels? I would like a locker or something if there is a swap that can be done.

ypu cna get them resurfaced until a certain thickness also i think your proportinal valve might be bad that would cause the fronts only to work

 

The proportional valve is a good thought. I hear they are common to go out.

 

sounds more like an abs problem then a proportioning valve. seldom do the the proportioning valves go out

 

i'd heard you cant turn slotted rotors, but i wonderd why cant you? so i tried it. i've had zero luck with slotted rotors. the problem is that the slots on the front side of the rotor are typicly lined up between the slots on the back side of the rotor. when you turn the rotor and the bit on the front side of the rotor drops into the slot it reduces the pressure on the backside creating a highspot on the backside, and vice versa. so you get a rotor that has slot shaped bumps. these bumps are only a couple thousandths tall, but that kills them, the effective surface area of your rotor is now equal to the area of the slots. so u can live with brake pulsation, or replace them.

 

My 98 k1500 brakes suck too. Make sure the rear brakes are adjusted up. If you or a friend doesn't know a whole lot about brakes and how to adjust them. talke it to a brake shop, brakes are something to have just right.
