Default outside left door latch

Yesterday somebody else got rough with my door handle and broke it. I got it took appart and the rod that connects from the handle to latching mechanism. is it suppose to be straight? best I can tell once its locked into the handle it just sticks down into a hole in the latch? Mine is bent into a U shape. The window was binding on it.. I'm trying to figure out if that rod is suppose to be straight woithout having to take the other side apart.. Can anyone help?

I replaced that piece of cable, linkage in my 1995 sierra,(thought that was why my interior handle wasn't working) on the left door(drivers side) and it did have a bend like that when I ordered it from the dealer. It does just stick in the hole, there should be a locking clip much like a c clip that goes over the bottom of it. Saying all this off memory, been a bit since I replaced it, but the cable does look right. Hope this helps.
