Default P0440

ok im trying to help out my pops with his truck. he works alot and doesnt have a lot of time to work on it. its the v6 1500. and he got a CEL the other day code p0440.

i took it to Autozone and its an EVAP code. small leak or no flow condition....

they say its either the fuel cap..... pretty sure its not because the light came with about a half tank b4 filling up.

or the EVAP canister or hose cracked-not connected

purge or vent solenoid is defective

or theres a vacuum leak at the engine...

the motor runs just fine.. so im guessing its not the vacuum leak either.

my question is where is this evap cannister at on the truck so i can check the connections?

also what do you all think is wrong? what should my first step be in fixing this for him...

im not a total noob im just not a truck person in the last year ive taught myself a lot about cars...hell i turbo'd an escort with a JDM motor. any help would be greatly appreciated as im starting my search now..

its a total crap shoot without an evap machine to fill the system with smoke...
as far as location,it depends on the year....if its a 99 or newer, its under the truck by the tank

Everybody I know with these trucks has had the light come on at some point or another. I'd just take it to a parts store, have them delete the code and press onward. It probably won't come back.
