P0440 Evap System
I have a problem with my 2002 Silverado 5.3L.I had a P0440 evap code keep poping up. Changed out the gas cap but that didnt work soo...Off to the dealer. The dealer smoked the system and found the fuel tank hose and vent were broken or cracked. The Dealers cost of repair was $1450
which was really a total replacement of the fuel tank. Does any one know if this can be fix with some epoxy or JB weld? Cant see how it was broken to start with. I dont go 4 wheeling or drive the truck hard. Any thoughts or option I should try. Not really into spending this kind of money for something like this.

You could try lifting the bed up off the frame and doing that yourself, but it depends on where it's broken. I'd say it's a 50/50 shot if epoxy or JB would work. Then again, you'd almost need to smoke out the evap system again just to see where to put your adhesive/goop so .. unless you have the means to smoke the evap system, lift your bed and visibly look at your evap lines around the filler neck area.
You don't happen to have P0443 or P0449 set do you? It could be your vent is sticking open.

Well you could do that, or fix it. It's possible that the dealership just wants to replace the tank just because. I'd get a second opinion from an independent shop or two that is capable of doing this type of work.
