Default part swap compatable

im looking to see if anyone knows for sure if i can take avalanche parts and swap them onto my 03 z71 silverado. will the radio be compatable? can i then put on a steering wheel with button controls and have it work? and will the cluster tell me gas mileage/ect if i do or would i need an avalanche cluster too. as long as its an 03 5.3l the wiring should be the same right?

I am not positive on this, but I would believe that the radio will hook up just fine, but the steering wheel controls are another thing, I'm not sure if it's already wired or if you'll have to run them

Sorry I couldn't be mroe of a help

Radio has to be reprogrammed to match the Vin of your truck. Steering wheel controls are functional pnly after you instal the right wiring harness and other parts. I know, because I was going to switch my parents radio out of thier Avalanche into my Sierra. Along with my steering wheel with controls into their Avalanche so my dad would be happy. Talked to a very kowledgeable guy.... to cut through the BS. What he said could be possible, but it was only a theory... And he works for a Chevy dealership in Tx. So needless to say I did not do the switching and I am in search of a steering wheel without controls so I can remove mine; since i installed my aftermarket radio. I hate controls that do not function.

haha, im looking for one with the buttons. but mine is chewed up so its useless after i replace it. i could see gm saving money and using the same wiring so maybe a steering wheel control silverado radio will work? hmmm. guess i could check the wiring diagrams, thanks!

According to the guy I emailed back and forth with... there is another wiring harness compltetely and something else, but i forgot what is is now, but if it touches something it will short out due to static charge. He told me he would attempt it for a Buch Fifty, but it was way to far to drive both vehicles an d attempting the Theory change over... plus reprogramming the radio to match the vin of both vehicles. Good luck let me know the results. The switch still crosses my mind.

eh, steering wheel buttons from a truck just like mine(not avalanche) go through the airbag and into the bcm. someone i know was going to check on a GM website to see if the bcm already supports the features or if it has to be programmed into the bcm. and with a tool he has, and possible replacement of the clockspring for the second wire. guess i stuck lucky!..lol just have to come accrossed the right(cheap) steering wheel from 03z71 with buttons
