Problems with Lights on my 2000 Silverado
The Fog Lights on my 2000 SIlverado Ext. Cab are not working. Had a remote car starter installed 4 years ago and have no problems with it operating properly. The problem I have encountered is the sudden & without warning, my Fog Lamps stopped working. I have checked the bulbs and sockets and everything is fine. I did note that if I start the vehicle with the remote starter and inser the key into the ignition switch and turn the switch to on and then turn my on my headlights and they work correctly, I can also turn on my Fog Lamps and they work correctly until I stepped on the brake pedal. When I step on the Brake Pedal, my Fog Lamps shut right off??? One other thing I noted this weekend while sitting in my parked vehicle (it was idling) waiting for a friend to meet me, my Fuel gauge showed the tank was empty but I knew for a fact that it was almost full. I checked to see if I was leaking gas and everything was fine. I rocked the vehicle and the fuel gauge clicked and rose to the Full mark???? I sat in the vihicle for about 10 minutes and observed the fuel gauge go to empty several times and each time I rocked the vehicle, the gauge would return to the Full mark. After noticing the problems with the Fog Lamps, I did note something that I had never observed. When I cycle the button to allow me to shut off my headlights my dash lights and Radio/Time lighting goes brighter. Not sure if this is supposed to work that way or not.
NOTE: My wife and I moved into a new house this weekend and I hooked a trailer up to the truck and connected the trailer lighting to the factory installed trailer lighting connection using an lighting adapter to adapt the four pin wire connector on the trailer harness to the factory receptacle mounted under the bumper. Not sure if this might have triggered my problems but I don't believe it did because all other light work correctly.
Has anyone experieinced these kind of problems? I am worried about an expensive repair.
Appreciate any help on this problem.
Ron

Ron,
My mother is having the same problem in her 04 Tahoe, also I work for Hertz rent a car I am good friends with a tech there he says chevys have a very sensitive elec. system especially since it almost all meets up at the radio and gauge cluster I would sugest taking it in to the dealer and put it through the computer. Try un doing anything you recently did and disconect your battery post to reset the computer. At hertz they usually replace the radio or the cluster and that takes care of it.

hey man i have a 2001 silverado reg cab 5.3 vortec. my fog lights work fine, but i have noticed my driving lights dont work and service engine light comes on. my driving lights must have some kind of short, because half the time they dont come on when i'm driving. also, my service engine light comes on and claims that my knock sensor is faulty. the V8 models all have two sensors below the intake, and every freakin automotive shop and dealership i've talked to claim that they've never had to replace one before...i've done nothing to the electrical system. also, when you toggle the switch 4 times it turns off your headlights, when they are on, your radio display lights should be dim. when your headlights are off, the display should be brighter. just a matter of more or less power feeding them.
