Cool Rear diff swap

I have a 1998 C 1500 2 WD that I would like to swap out the rear diff to a C 2500 so that I can haul my bike in the back as well as pull my bumper pull trailer. the tongue weight of the trailer is between 5 and 6 Hundred lbs. My bike weighs in at around 800 lbs. Just looking to create a little extra ability to haul both safely. I am using an equalizer hitch and I have air bags as well but I am concerned that the axles and bearings may be to close to their limits.

I won't mind changing to six lug from five but I'm not sure if six will do or if I need to go to eight lug wheels and axles. Can i just change axles??

Any suggestions or recomendations? I don't want to haul the world!! Just want to add a little room for safety!!

Thanks!

You can check the sticker on the drivers side door frame and it should tell you what the load capacity is. I think a 1500 is about 2000 lbs. So what your carrying is OK, 800+600=1400lbs. I'd be a little concerned with the tongue weight on the bumper. 5-6 hundred lbs is close to the maximum I think. You may be better off putting a trailer hitch on it.

Thanks! I did not mention that I do have a class 3 reciever hitch on it. "Bumper pull" is just a phrase that the RV world uses! I will Look at my sticker in the morning though!! Thanks again!
