Rear End Maintaince

RE: Rear End Maintaince
I assume we're talking newer truck?..(gmt800?)
100k/...SOME trucks have a drain plug at the bottom of the pumpkin, making this simple...others,the cover has to come off.
Many quickie-lube places "suck" the oil out.
Here's the kicker..The rear end oil in these trucks is synthetic...The gm stuff is almost $25 a quart....it takes 3 or 4,depending on the rear end size....I'm sure there are cheaper oils, but DON'T USE the old 90W gear oil...it has to meet the requirements.

Check to see if you have the Eaton (G80) locking rear diff., there is a break in peroid for it. So if it has G80 I would change it right away because it probably has the original oil in it. It also requires a seperateadditive available from your dealer.
If it's the regular diff., I think it's like every six years or 60k whichever comes first.
