Rear end swap
My son has just destroyed his 3rd rear end in his 89 Silverado 4X4. He is running a 350 thats built a little much (400 hp at least), racing prepped 700R (one thats finally holding up). Any of you know of a Detriot Locker unit that was supposedly stock in an 86 Silverado? I found one in a local swap magazine for a great price but I have questions.
Should I have any issues swapping this drum to drum? Driveshaft length would be the same? Are they stronger units than the stock ones he keeps wiping out?
Any info you folks can offer will be greatly appreciated - surely I am forgetting something here.....

I really don't know much of a locker that came stock in 86. What I do know is that the locker doesnt affect anything. As long as it matches up with the gears inside. What size rear diff is it now? The trucks in the 80's made it easy were you can swap any rear end(bolt-on). I don't know if it changed in the late 80's. Sounds like he needs a 14 bolt full floater. They can be found in the chevy 1 ton trucks and thelate modelHD's.
