Default speedo gear

well ive came to the conclusion that its my speedo gear that is bad with my 83 suburban
every guage works but the speedo and the odometer
also the gear selector doesnt mate with the dash indicators

i will be posting pictures of the ride later im working 2 jobs so i am asleep most of the time when i get off my day job
anyway my haynes says the speedo gear is fairly easy to remove but doesnt show a picture of where it is im thinking its on the top towards the front of the trans any one know of where it is
thanks

its on the side of the tailshaft right under the speedometer cable. once you remove the cable you can get to it

Yep what he said. Right below you when you're sitting in the seat pretty much and it's easy to install. The gear selector band is a pretty common failure, mine is broke too. They're almost more effort than they're worth, especially for such an insignificant little part. I used to have an 89 suburban. I really miss it except for the mpg. It was horrible.
