Default Squeeky seat belt retractor

Hi all - I'm new to your forum & this is my first post. I have a 2004 2500HD Ext Cab long box D/A.

My drivers side seat belt retractor squeeks constantly and is very annoying. I've sprayed it with a couple of lubricants including silicon & nothing seems to help for more that a day or two.

Any ideas on fixing this issue short of replacing the seat belt unit?

I read with interest a previous post that Argon wrote regarding removal of the seat cover - sounds like quite a project.

Hopefully someone with have some insight.

Thanks.......

Short of replacing it, possibly some graphite lube(aka dry lube). Never heard of that problem but you might try sending Argon a private message and ask him about it. He's bound to have dealt with that before.

yeah, some squeak right in your ear..not much can be done as most of the gears and such are plastic...the only real cure is to replace it

Thanks guys - I did print out Argon's explanation in another post regarding how to un-sheath the seat cover and access the seat belt, I guess I'll give it a go.

Not yet - no belts available locally so I have to order one first. Consequently I got the WD-40 out to quiet it down for the weekend.

The thing that sucks is that you have to hear that squeak by law.

I'm not sure what you mean by that but I assume you are saying I cannot disconnect it until I get a replacement.
