starters getting hot electrically have gone through 6 starters in six months
was hoping someone had an idea of what might be the problem it is a chevy k-1500 i just dropped a new motor in it right from the crate and it is doing the same thing old motor was doing

there is a short within the wireing harness. Break out a schematic and start tracing! Most possible cause of this problem. Stray voltage continuing to the starter after bendix release. Could also be the the key switch! Shoot your key hole with electrical cleaner and then drench with silicone spray to rule it out first. If the problem goes away then it's the switch.

highly suspect your key switch! Shoot electrical cleaner into the switch and then drench with silicone spray. See if that stops the short or stray voltage to starter when the bendix returns to détente position after release of key! Very likely cause my friend and i hope this helps.
