Hey,
I have a 1998 Sierra 5.0 Litre and have the same problem as vettegator005, it does sound like a grinding or something, would this have anything to do with an oxygen sensor? cause it seems like when mine does it, it starts weak low rev's then goes back up to normal.
Thanks, Shawn

if its a loud grindinmg clashing..the starter-to flywheel teeth are worn down...an expensive repair.
if it sounds normal but is a longgg crank...on that 01...unplug the vacuum hose off your fuel regulator and see if its gassy....you may have to check it multiple times over a day or so to catch it.
its on ther drivers side of the intake..a little pot

I also have a 2001 Z71 and am experiencing the same problem. It almost seems like it may be a fuel regulator or, something like that. It seems like the fuel drains from the fuel rail back into the tank and it takes a few seconds for it to refill before it can start. I hear the pump so, I don't think it's that. I just want to avoid taking it to the dealer. Any thoughts?
