Ok so i just looked at a few wrecker websites and i found one for $1200USD. My answer was **** that. So i hear good things about eaton and detroit lockers, anyone have opinions? I'm not going to install the diff. myself because by the sounds of it they're really easy to screw up and better left to a professional.

For those who have got their differentials swapped to lockers what did you pay for parts and labour? What ratio did you get? I'm thinking of going with the 4.10, how bad would the MPG get hit?

Cheers

Well you have the 2wd and u shouldnt have any problems with getting any gear ratio. Just depending on the eyar of your truck you can easily swap the rear axel with a z71 axel from the same year. Hardest part of changing the axel is how heavy they are. They do make kits to go from 8 to 6 lug but your better off getting a axel from the same year Z71. If you change axels yourself it would be cheaper than taking your truck to get the gears changed.

I would leave the gear ratio the same & just install a mecanical locker or limited slip. On a street driven truck you wouldn't want a selectable locker in the rear ( ARB, E-Trac...).

The labor will be around $300-$500 to install the locker, and $1000 to install the new gears (parts and labor). Together you would save on the labor some and get gears and locker for $1000 plus cost of the locker.

And you are right, don't do it yourself.

Sorry about the late reply,

I'm from Ontario. Haven't had any time to look for an axle yet.
