Default TBS Spacer whistle

ok ive owned the jet and helix power tower tbs spacers. with my K&N 63 series cai, the jet sounded like a turbo, and the helix just had a slight whistle throughout the throttle range. the thing is i hate the whistle but enjoyed the throttle reponse (didnt have them on long enough for mpg test)

my question is, the Trans-Dept tbs spacers i keep reading about on here, does either the helix style or smooth bore whistle at all (with a CAI) and which one do you guys seem to like better?

thanks for the help

any of the smooth bore spacers are not going to whistle, its that spiral that creates the whistle. which seems to be more audible with a CAI then a stock one. if you dont want the whistle but want some response a smooth bore is what your looking for.

thanks guys, now i read something about this but i was a little confused, does the smooth bore produce the same results (ex. better mpg, throttle response, hp) as the spiral tbs?

I have Trans Dapt's torque curve spacer and it doesn't whistle. Great gains too! Was $62 to my doorstep from Summitracing.com . Trans Dapt engineers their spacers to not whistle but still be as affective.

72Charger:

do you have a CAI or just a stock intake? again just curious with the whistling
i enjoyed the helix power tower on my 89 k5 with the tbi (of course 2 different fuel injection systems here)
my friend also had good mpg gains from his 93 silverado with the tbi 350.

thanks for the replies.

No I have the factory intake setup + K&N air filter + redneck ram air mod. Ofcourse you get the sucking sound from a good intake but you still should not here any whistle from the TBS with a Trans Dapt. It's just designed not to do that. Go on www.summitracing.comand do a search for trans dapt tbs' for your truck and read the descriptions of them to make up your mind about them. They advertise the torque curve as being a bit better than the smooth bore but that may just be an advertising gimmick... who knows.

On the subject of TBS's, anyone know why they don't reccomend using one with a CAI? I have Jeg's TBS and it said "not for use with FIPK type air intake"......

Because it relocates the intake into the fan shroud basically. In most cases however, you can trim the fan shroud and be okay. A lot of people on here have both. A few people in the past have complained that it actually put the intake into the fan and they had to trim the FIPK tube a bit to move it forward away from it. Either way it is doable.
