trailer brakes for a 97 silverado
I have a 97 silverado and looking to wire up an electric brake controler. I see at the trailer shops they have a quick connector harness that just plugs into the box near the brake pedal for 2000 and up trucks. The trailer shop told me that it won't work on my truck and I will have to hard wire it to the stop light switch on the pedal. Is this true or are they just trying to get 200 bucks out of me to install it?

Its true, but they are easy to hook up, just 4 wires. If your truck has the towing package, you should have the blue wire from the front to the rear of your truck to the 7 pin connector. It is hidden in behind the brake booster in the wiring harness. If you dont have existing wiring and you dont feel comfortable doing this yourself, $200 isnt bad to have this done.
As for controllers, I would suggest a proportional controller, not a timed one...I just got a Tekonsha 90195 P3 Electronic Brake Control....love it
