Tranfer Case Woes??
Gentlemen/Ladies,
New to the forum, looking for some of your expertise and/or opinions.
I am not nearly as mechanical as I'm sure lots of you are, but here goes...
1998, Sierra,K1500, 5.7L, auto tran
PROBLEM/CONCERN..
- 4 wheel drive engages but, in 4h it developes a "whine" similar to tread noise on pavement at about 20 mph. Even though it works, I think the noise is excessive and should be looked at. Any ideas?
Fluid level is good, and shows good color.
Could this have anything to do with the actuator? as it tends to "grind" a bit in and out of 4l, as well? Help??

Every four wheel drive Chevy I have ever seen has done that. The tires have to be perfectly matched to bring that to a minimum, so you can try rotating your tires or buying new ones to see if that helps. I never use my truck in 4wd on the road, nor off road unless I really have to, but by them its usually too late and I'm already stuck :P
