I have a 97 Suburban with 209000+ miles. It started making a really bad grinding noise from the transfer case. It sounds like it is trying to lock into 4 wheel drive when I am driving down the road but I am not even touching the 4 wheel drive shift button. I have read a few articles about what it could be but I wanted to ask to see if anyone else has had a similar problem with their transfer case. It also sounds like it could be slipping. I would appreciate any insight to this problem b/c I like to work on the truck myself but I don't want to mis-diagnose the problem and spend a lot of money on something that doesn't fix it.
