Default Tranny flushing

I have an 02 Silverado 2500HD 6.0 4WD Automatic with 98K miles.
I have read on other forums about trans flushing and found a majority dont recommend it.The trans fluid still looks OK but the trans seems to be running a bit hotter than normal lately and was wondering if a flush and filter change would be good for the tranny.I'm getting the cooling system flushed and wanted to get the tranny done at the same time. The work would be done at the Chevy dealer where I bought the truck as I have had good service there in the past.I have gotten good info from this forum in the past.
What are your opinions on tranny flushing?

Dont flush it but changing the fluid/filter is always good.

Yeah everybody I've ever talked to has said flushing an auto tranny is horrible. If there is any debris in the fluid(and 9 times out of 10 there is) it just gets cycled throughout the transmission by the machine instead of coming out. Best bet is to spend the extra money and have them drop the pan, change the filter/gasket and fluid all together. Only thing better about the flushing is it gets ALL of the old fluid out of the tranny and torque converter where as just dropping the pan still leaves the torque converter half full of old transmission fluid.

sounds like you are worried about the flush, then do not have it done.

should have had a flush at about 60K, but that's a mute point now.

drop pan, change filter, that will only change out about 6 qts of oil i think,

if you do not have any problems, in about 10K drop pan again and change out oil, then again inanother 10Kdo it again, changing oil 3 times will get most of the old oil out. It's a pain doing it this way, but it will get the old oil changed out.

Most are worried about a flush when they are way over due on maintenance and figure the only thing holding their clutches together is crud in the transmission.

a lot easier to just flush at 60k then again at 120k.

I would be more worried about the flush if you had 120K on vehicle and had used it a great deal for towing.

must care for tranny, about $2500 +- depends on where to take it for a complete rebuild

05' Chevy Silverado 2WD Ext. Cab LT

I was told by a mechanic at work (who said was a certified GM mechanic b4 he was put in jail...yea.) that i should just flush instead of drop the pan at 50-60k. so i flushed it at 60 and im at 61 now. I'm scared. Anything to look forward to running into down the road?

I did the same thing. I got it flushed then almost immediately turned around and changed the filter.

If I were you I would drain the transmission in your driveway, drop the pan, replace the filter and gasket (it is easy to do), and bolt her back up. Now fill her up with about 3 quarts or so of fluid (check after adding each one DO NOT OVERFILL). That will get you by for the next 50-60K.

Flush is fine as long as you get that filter out of there!

Flush = OK
Filter and Fluid Change = Much Better!
