Default Transmission from hell

1999 Yukon. First the truck would jerk all over the road when accelerating and de-accelerating. Then my radiator went and ended up with water in the transmission through the cooler. Now my truck still jerks but I only have 1st and 2nd gear. 3rd through overdrive start slipping at around 25 miles an hour. Any advice would be much appreciated.

well if you are still driving it with out getting all the water out you have a problem....sounds like you need a rebuild.

i would reccommend a complete rebuild, and be sure you tell the shop not to re use any parts, on my 99 silverado a rebuild cost around 1300, also if it chatters and feels like its jerking while taking off from a dead stop and slowing to a stop have the rear end checked, especially if if chatters and jerks during turns ( not wide turn but a normal turn to a sharp turn) alothought if it does that no matter what angle of a turn you are making its really messed up, i ve had 5 trans rebuilds and 4 rearend rebuilds, and when the rear end would grab really good it would stop the trans from spinning then it would shear some gears and trans would go from 0 to whoa!! in no time and shredd the trans, the read ends going out were due to having huge heavy 22 inch rims, when i got rid of them it was the best thing for my truck no problems since but still i may be wrong

I hate to say it,but everyone is right. Your going to need a rebuild. Make sure that they don't do a "patch job" on it. Tell them that you want it completely rebuilt, including a new torque converter. The last chevy transmission that I had rebuilt cost me around $1800 in Alabama, but that also included them pulling and re-installing the tranny. Shop around for the best warranty available. Around here most shops offer a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty, but after I paid to have mine rebuilt I found a company that offered an 18,000 mile warranty.
