From what I understand you'll need a torch, a good impact gun and some serious impact sockets, a good bit of room, two floor jacks and some jack stands, someone to help you lift and position stuff as you put it together, maybe even ball joint removal tools.
All I remember from asking a mechanic who did his own lift was that I would spend more in tools than what I would to install the lift myself. And thats before bribing friends with beer!

4wheelrunner, i put a 2 1/2in torsion lift in my truck and it only took about 3 hours, you just have to get the front end re-aligned afterwards. I bought everything through roughcountry.com for around $130. Thats keys, blocks, ubolts, and shocks. It sits just as high as my buddies truck with a 3in body lift AND you cant see the frame sticking down past the body . The toughest part was probably makeshifting a torsion puller tool which broke and shot the gun out of my hand and across the garage O.o lol i recomend going to bonds and spending the $13 on the right tool.
