The truck is ten years old and has been well used for that time, so maybe the bushings could have worn out? It has never been lifted because it has been in his family since it was new. I don't know what to think and I'm just scared of getting ripped off by a mechanic who might not even fix it.

 

Id say its the bushing. You can get new shocks for it cheap but I don't know how much it would cost it get them installed.

 

I say. Take it in and let us know what they tell you. That might be the biggest help. We should be able to pick out a line of bull better than diagnosing a problem we cant really see. It could be so many things its really hard to tell.

I guess you could just take a look at the bushing if you wanted to, its about 5" in diameter and made of rubber so it's kind of hard to miss, just checked mine when I was under there yesterday, I still can't get over the fact that you're so nice to him. hmph its not fair

The guys above have great advice and it sounds like you may have found a very possible cause in the body bushing, but to do it right someone really needs to look at it. You've got to have the shop do the work anyway, right? It's tough to tell sometimes who will treat you right but trust your intuition.
