Default what does it take to remove the right front axle

Howdy Gang,
I'm trying to help a friend on his '94 Chevy 1500 4x4.
The right front drive axle is shot. it just spins in outer u-joint.
I searched but didn't find what I'm looking for.
Does the lower ball joint have to come off?
It seems to be riveted to the A arm
Sorry for the dumb question but is that truck have metric or inch threads
thanks
hank

I found out that the upper ball joint nut has to come off
and seperate the ball joint from the steering knuckle
