Default What to look for in a chevy 1500

Hey guys
i'm looking to get a 98-05 chevy 1500 exd cab pick up. I learned to drive in a 02 Tahoe so I know I like the power train. My dad has a 01 2500 diesel so I know I like the interior. ( I wish i could get a diesel too but thats just too much $$$)

At this point the only things i know that I'm looking for, are that I would prefer a 5.3L v8, and I need at least a exd cab, if not a crew cab. Lastly that between what money I have and what I can get a for my current car( jeep Cherokee) my budget is around $7,000. I've looked and I can find alot of trucks in that price range, but I don't know what to look for.

So my question is what should i look for and what should I avoid.

Thanks

Well really you dont have to worry much bout chevy or gmc cuz they are built so well. To have some peace of mind just check for records of service to the vehicle if they have any. Or if its ever been in a wreck by checking VIN. If not then you could get some opinions from some mechanics. It really is hard to tell how much wear the internals have whether is has been takin care of or romped on a lot. So whatever vehicle u choose, just add the extended warranty.

Check the bottoms of the doors, rocker panels, and cab corners for rust/peeling paint. If there is much of anything stay away from it. The rust will just spread and eat away those areas faster than anything. Trust me.

For that price you should be able to find something that is clean.

My grandpa is selling his 2000 Sierra extended cab 2wd. It is in MINT conditiion with new tires and new brakes. No rust at all. one or two scratches that absolutely drive him nuts. He doesn't even drive it but once a week and it still gets washed twice a week. If you live in the west Michigan Area just PM me and I'll set you up. Oh yeah I forgot to mention he is a retired GM tech

He's asking $7500, so who knows he may still have it by August, he's not too motivated of a seller. I don't think anyone is going down south for quite a while until they drive to Florida in October. Here is a pic. sorry its not a very good one, but you get the idea. SLE trim with single compact disc. Cloth bucket seats with a center console. Tow package. 5.3 V8 with 4L60e tranny. Towhaul. Everything works great. Also has a tonneau cover and a bed mat
