Wheel and tire combo...
Well guys I got stuck this weekend. I really would like to raise the ride height of the truck a little bit without doing a lift. What size rim and tire can I get away with on my 2004 Silverado Z71. I am thinking that if I go with a taller rim, and tire I can raise the ride height. I would however have to get the odemeter corrected. Can that be done with a programmer? I am thinking not unless the analog guage is controlled digitally.
Thanks,
Craig

With a stock height stilverado the wheel size shouldn't make a difference becuase the difference between a 275/70/17 and a 275/70/20 is the diameter around for the wheel, not the tire height. To answer your question the biggest tire size you can fit on your truck would be 285's .... with or without changing the wheels. you could use your stock 16's or 17 inch wheel depending on the package you got....285's should not requie any modification to your truck to make them fit and should raise the vehicle height about 1-2 inches.
Changing your speedometer is rather easy. You could simply buy a programmer such as hypertech, or diablo sport. They offer a input selection of your tire and wheel size that once entered will digitally correct your speedometer to match the input selection you chose. They range from 350-600$.

Actually instein is partially incorrect. There is a tire height difference between 275/70/17 and 275/70/20. the 275/70/20 (approx 35" tall as opposed to 32" tall) will be three inches taller. I do not know your rim size, but I have 285/70/17 (33" tall) on my stock height 05'. So as long as you don't go over 33" tall you will be fine. If you have 16" rime the tire will be 285/75/17 (33" tall). As far as a spedo adjustment, it is such a minor difference it is not worth it. It only changes the spedo by about 3 mph at 70. I have checked this with my gps and it is consistent.

Smoke I agree with you about the speedo! You don't need to worry about compensating your speedometer to match your tire size until you go really extreme, i.e. 38's. If you want to save some money, have one of your local law enforcement officials clock you. Most times they will be more than happy to help you. Just tell them your going to go a certain speed limit, lets say 45mph, then as you past he will clock you. If the cop as laser capabilities, that's even better, for it is more accurate than radar.
