Default Fuel Economy/power

Hey guys, I am looking into purchasing a truck soon. My question is this: I am looking at the 5.4 liter v8 and the 7.3 liter diesel. I know the biggest differences, obviously power and fuel efficiency is higher in the diesel. I am curious if there is any closeness in the gas engine? What kind of gas mileage do you guys get in the two trucks respectively, and how does it compare to power? Thanks for the help.

i have a 97 f250 7.3 ltr powerstroke diesel et cab long bed. i have an aftermarket air intake system and a 5 inch dual stack exhaust and i can get about 17 miles to the gallon on highway and 14 in town. now towing, i get about 15 highway and 12 around town. i'm not sure what the gas gets but i know that diesel is better. hope this helps

You don't say what year you a looking to buy but you may want to consider the 6.8 gas. The price of diesel fuel, at least around here, is 30-40 cents a gallon higher than premium gasoline. Any advantage in fuel economy is wiped out with the cost of fuel. Diesels are noisy, and more expensive to maintain and repair.
