Default Straight 6 or 351w V8

I'm looking to do some engine work to my 88 F250 XLT Lariat. It's gonna be my toy now. I'm wanting to give it more torque and power. Currently it has a 5.8L 351w. I need opinions on what to do to it. Is it a good idea to go with a performance built straight 6 or a performance built 351w? Or is it possibly worth the hassle to upgrade to a 460? What's the best route here for power and torque?

That's the way I lean too. But 351w has a habit of biting the dust early as compared to the damn near indestructible Straight 6. I used to have a Straight 6 in my 96 F250. It had power like no other and it had 250k on the engine. The 351w I have now has equal power. Talking all stock here. I have a feeling a performance built 351w will be better than any straight 6.
