Default 95 K1500

I have a 1995 K1500 with the 305/Automatic Trans. 170,000mi. Totally stock. Sometimes it will not start. Always turns over great but no start. Leave it alone & the next day or 2 it will start?? No codes set, had it checked when it was running.
What I have done so far-

New oil PSI sender
New Fuel Pump & Filter
New Cap/Rotor/Wires
New Ignition Module (twice)
New Fuel Pump Relay
Charged battery
Checked the Distributer Module (coil) with Ohm Meter today using Chilton Manual for help. The readings I got were not the same as what the manual says they should be, I only get Ohms when crossing the electrical connections, nothing to ground or to the
spark plug post, but.. I have a 1988 K1500 that checks out the same & starts fine??
Getting good
fuel flow when we crank it so I am looking for a spark problem.
Is there anything else I can check? Almost bought a new ECM today but the 2 modules hurt bad enough.
Why 2 modules? Because the last time it did this a new module was installed & it fired right up. (1 month ago)
Please Help!!! [:@]

No spark at #1 plug. How do I check it after the coil?

where the wire from the coil goes into the cap...check it there...
If you have spark there, your cap/rotor is at fault...

If not,its either the pick-up coil ,ignition coil,or module.

Is fuel spraying during the cranking?

Yes fuel is spraying when I crank it.
So I can put a screwdriver in the cap side of the coil wire & watch for spark to ground whe I crank it?

yes...if you have spark going IN to the cap..its obviously a cap/rotor problem that its going in but not coming out.

If you have no spaRK GOING IN,then its either the pick-up coil not signaling the ignition coil (rare) or a bad coil..

If your injectors are pulsing during cranking, your module is good.

Ok, no spark at #1 plug. Checked the coil & no spark there as well.
Pulled the dist cap off to see what I had to do to check the pickup coil & finally found a wire that goes to the ignition module had broken off the plug. I didn't see it before because it was wrapped under the distributor. Anyway, the wire will not push back into the plug because of old wire stuck in it. How do I replace the two
wires with the plug on the end. Are they part of the distributor? I am assuming the wires are coming from the pickup coil.

yes, they are from the pickup coil..Its time to price a reman dist..A p/u coil is not too pricy, but the dist must be removed and the shaft slid out, which involves a roll pin and a retaining ring....It may be easier to just put in another dist....then again, you've already got a new module....
Sometimes an old dist will cause one to backfire...due to the shaft losing polarity/...I'd try to find a good price on a dist.....expect to pay 125ish...

But...you could put the 10-$ pickup coil in as well and be ok for awhile..

Bought a new dist yesterday, $136 at Napa. Figured since I had to remove the old one & take it apart to put in a new pickup coil, I would be better off with a rebuilt- especially with 170,000mi on it. Firedright up & runs great.

Thanks for your help Argon. [sm=smiley20.gif]
