Default catalytic converter over heating need help!!!

I have a 2000 Chevy ck2500 with a 454 engine. The floor board on the passenger side is getting really hot. one of the catalytic converter is under there, so i am guessing that may be the problem. When i got under there i noticed the factory headt shields are still in place, so i am trying to figure out what is going on. Is there anything that could make the catalytic converter over heat. There is not loose of power or the engine is not over heating. Help Please!!!
