Default Late Chevy truck wheels on early truck

Hi, I have a 1981 Chevy, 1 ton car hauler (dual wheels). I recently acquired a set of 2005 Chevy 8 lug wheels. The late wheels are 16x6.5 and the bolt pattern/dimensions are the same as my 1981. The problem is that the 1981 has standard, chamfered lug holes to accept conical/tapered lug nuts (9/16 inch), while the late wheels have the lug holes drilled straight through the rim with no chamfer and a combination lugnut/washer (14mm). My question: how can I ensure that the wheels are centered on the hubs (the tapered lug nuts do that on the old style wheels) and what type of lug nut do I use. I am sure I'm not the first person to install late model 1 ton rims on an early 1 ton. Thanks for any help you can offer.[/align]

Duuuh - sorry for the dumb question. WhenI removed the duals, I discovered that the late model wheels and the early wheels are the same hub-centric wheels. The tapered cone lugnut recesses were only on the after-market vanity caps for the hubs and are designed to accept chrome plated lugnuts. Bottom line - the wheels are fully interchangeable. Thanks Steve
