GMC 3500 Gas to diesel engine swap

OK. I have a GMC 3500 Vandura bus conversion (mini school bus) I have a 5.0L gas V8 in it right now but its blown. I was wondering if anyone knows which diesel engine could I swap in the easiest and which diesel engine has the best performance ??(power, fuel econmy, reliability.. etc)

thinking of doing the same

I was looking at puting the 6.2 in a 91 1/2 ton. Should be a derict bolt in from what i can tell. as far as transmition im looking for the nv4500 as i will not run an autotragec. Would love to hear of anyone else doing this swap.
