Its now almost August 2025, and I'm looking to get a good used truck from 2016 or newer; maybe even 2020. Thru my research and asking, I've been reading and hearing that Toyota Tundras are seemingly most reliable, esp the Gen 2.5 and I like them bc I think they're built better and beefier than regular half tons. I like F150 and hear the 5.0 Coyote engine is good with the 6 spd trans [so maybe a 2016-2018 F150]. I want something that wont cause me problem and is generally easy enough to work on my self for changing fluids and minor repairs replacing parts. Something Certified and inspected with a good once-over to know what I'm getting bc last 2 times I good problem trucks. People know how to cover issues up to make the trucks seem good for a short while, then problems start showing up. I'm reaching out to ask guys with the knowledge of what they know to be a solid truck that I can count on for the long haul. I dont do much heavy hauling to work the trucks hard, but I know a well built truck will last longer, and be capable for when I do need it to do something. I went from a 2000 Z71 stolen in 2020 to a used 2004 F150 Lariat which imo, the Ford seems better built, but I have and electrical gremlin that I need to keep pulling my headlight fuse to turn them off overnight or they'll drain my battery. My rear driver side window stopped working for a year then suddenly started working again. I hear the PMG on the real cab wall behind seat can be problematic. Anyway, I'm looking for something built proper. Suggestions??? Thusfar my preferences would be as I've stated earlier, the Tundra Gen 2.5 or F150 13th Gen with 5.0 Coyote and 6 spd

 

I think you're on the right track with Toyota Tundras and Ford F-150s. The 2.5-generation Tundra (2014–2021) has a solid reputation for longevity. Many people like them because they don't have a lot of breakdowns and are easy to work on.

With that said, I also suggest checking out Ford trucks, specifically the 2016–2018 F-150 with the 5.0 Coyote engine and 6-speed transmission that you mentioned. Those model years are supposed to be good, and many owners say they are easy to work on for simple things like oil changes, brakes, and filters.
