Need your own opinion on a truck
What's up guys, I'm new to this forum and I just need some help from you haulers.
I'm looking for a truck for under $2000 that I wanna use to haul cars around since I flip cars and would much rather haul them myself then pay $100-$200 every time I want to tow something.
Anyway, I don't care if it's pretty. I just need something reliable and something that will be able to continuously haul a trailer+a car. So my question to you all is what is the best thing I can get for my money. I live in Chicago and there's a decent amount of trucks/vans for sale that run and drive for under 2 grand.
I know the arguement between diesel and gas. Preferably I would like something thats a diesel. I keep finding like 1990-1995 F250 7.3 idi's for the money.
What you guys recommend and why? Please keep the rude comments to yourself, I'm retarded when it comes to trucks since I have a slammed European car so this is completely different world to me. I just want to hear your own experiences/opinions.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

yes, a diesel would be preferred but I have never seen one for that price. the problem with getting an old high mileage diesel is the cost to maintain it.
injectors can go for over $500 each x 8 injectors. head gasket replacement for a duramax is 28 hours labour time. if you never worked on diesels forget diagnosing it yourself.
if you must get a diesel, don't get a old piece. spend a bit more and get something in good condition.
gasers are cheaper to fix and you can do it yourself. a hemi 2500 truck 04 range could be got cheap or 6.0L gm 2500 are quite capable.

I think you should be able to find a reg cab 88-94 GMC/Chevy 2wd for that money. For ease of maintenance etc you can't go wrong with a 350 engine mated to a 700r4 tranny 2wd.
$2000 might be pushing it, I would suggest bumping to $3000 and saving yourself some headache

SierraFan makes a good suggestion. The king daddy of that era was the 89-93 Dodge D-Series Ram 2500 with the 6BT 5.9L Cummins. If you can find one you can afford, they are true monsters. It's the truck that made Dodge Cummins famous. I never saw any 2wd ones though. The 7.3L Diesel F-250 from 91-96 was enormously popular, which has good and bad points. You don't know when your looking at them if you have a well maintained old war-horse, or something some kid has "modded". If you find a good one, they are solid. If you are not used to diesel, I'd suggest getting some info on the cost of maintenance and repairs on diesel motors. I'm a gas man myself, so I can't help you there.
If you'd rather get a gas burner, along with the excellent GM trucks above, the Dodge D Series with the 5.9L LA motor or the F 150 with the 351 Windsor motor paired with the 4-speed are good horses as well.
