my 93 5.0 litre tach and speedometer jump all over place when i first start the motor. i'm still in park and as i rev engine both move all over . the engine won't start now, any ideas on where to start looking?

 

The stepper motors on dashboards are prone to failure - look around the forums for lots of discussion on it. Not sure about 93s however. That shouldn't keep the engine from starting (at least to my understanding).

I then check the coil and found a loose wire going from coil to distributer . The wire was loose at the dist in a connector. I replaced wirw and connector and viola, no more problems. Truck starts and no more erratic swings of tach or speedometer. thankyou jreagan for the help . I hope this helps someone else inthe future.

 

thankyou for your reply jreagan. the problem was caused by a loose connection in a wire that comes from the coil and goes into the distributor. The wire was loose inside the plugin connector so wasn't noticeable.I replaced wires and connector that solved all the problems. I hope this helps someone in the future. thankyou
