RE: Tire size and so much more
Hey, I have a question which has not been answered so far, and clicking the link Steve provided was just shy of a complete waste of time.
The stock 16" wheels that come on Silverados, they are 8" wide yes? If they are indeed 8" wide, and they handle a 265/75 tire, then is there any problems with the same rim being used with a 285/75? There's not a whole lot of outward difference between the tires, except the small difference in tread width....?
I went to all the damn trouble of dismounting, cleaning, scraping, masking, painting, remounting.... I just wanted to reuse my stock wheels. I love 'em.

From what i have seen the stock rims are 7.5" wide and 285 75 r16s are 1 inchtaller and 0.8 inchwidder then 265 75 r16s. The same thing goes for the new 17" rims the stock tire size is 265 70 r 17 and 285 70 r17s fit fine on stock rims i ran it and know of tons of others that did and the same with 285 75 r16s you can run them of the stock 16x7.5 rims.
Hope that helps
