over charge alt.

new here and needing some help, i have a 1980 toyota 4x4 pickup, 20R, manual trans, its been rednecked, toyota dealership cant help. my alternator is over charging. 16.7 at the battery, there is 2 regulators that fit this truck, one is 5 pin and the other is six. i was wanting to know if the previous owner put the wrong one on and its over charging or its the right one and its just malfunctioning. i need to know wich one belongs on this truck. thank you

Call a different dealer witht the vinn# and ask them what alt you need.
